Ontic has launched a new proactive dismantling supply program that strengthens long-term parts accessibility for operators worldwide by sourcing critical components from out-of-service aircraft and processing them to the highest standards within its strict quality and compliance framework.
Ontic, a leading OEM and MRO provider for civil and military aircraft, has shared details of its new initiative, reflecting a solution-oriented approach to one of the industry’s most persistent challenges: the availability of hard-to-source parts for currently operating platforms.
The first aircraft processed under the program was a Boeing 747-400 previously operated by Thai Airways. The wide range of components recovered from this aircraft will be reintroduced into Ontic’s MRO inventory. This investment, which also includes returning components to serviceable condition, will enable operators to access critical 747 parts more quickly and reduce the risk of costly AOG (aircraft on ground) delays.
Each component included in Ontic’s dismantling program undergoes comprehensive technical and regulatory inspection before being returned to service. Full traceability is ensured from the moment of dismantling, supported by certified documentation and verified operational history. In this context, detailed “Time Since New” (TSN) and “Cycles Since New” (CSN) data are also recorded.
The components are then processed through controlled inspection and overhaul procedures to ensure they meet the highest airworthiness and reliability standards. As a result, operators are provided with fully compliant and flight-ready products, supported by Ontic’s OEM-certified quality assurance across all repair and spare parts services.
The 747-400 dismantling process, covering a wide range of complex components such as actuators, valves, gearbox screw systems, and brake lock mechanisms, has demonstrated the significant recovery value of dismantling activities managed through a structured and quality-focused process.
From a strategic perspective, dismantling programs are a critical part of Ontic’s support model. By combining asset investment, engineering capability, and strict quality management, they aim to meet customer needs not only today but throughout the entire lifecycle of platforms.
