New Su-30SM2 Fighter Jets Delivered to Russia

The Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAP) has delivered new Su-30SM2 fighter jets to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Following the delivery, IAP announced that the aircraft had successfully completed the necessary ground and flight tests. The new Su-30SM2s will be introduced to the Russian Aerospace Forces as an enhanced version of the existing Su-30SM models.

Enhanced Capabilities and Modernization

The Su-30SM2, a modernized version of the “Super Sukhoi” Su-30SM, retains the core advantages of the Su-30SM while incorporating significant improvements. These include an upgraded engine and a new radar system that expands the jet’s combat capabilities. The Su-30SM2 is powered by the AL-41F-1S TVC engine, derived from the Su-35, offering a higher thrust-to-weight ratio, lower fuel consumption, and extended maintenance intervals.

New Radar and Electronic Systems

The Su-30SM2 is equipped with the N011M Bars-R radar, which provides enhanced detection and tracking performance compared to the PESA radar in the Su-30SM. Additionally, the aircraft’s modernization includes integration with Russia’s new-generation command and control network, supported by the OSNOD multi-channel communication and information distribution system.
