Navy establishes new defense industrial base office: Cao

WASHINGTON — The Navy is launching a new defense industrial base office, in an attempt to bolster the industrial supply chain and ramp up the adoption of “innovative technologies” into the fleet.

Andrew Magliochetti, who previously served as the director of the Navy’s Office of Small Business Programs, will oversee the Office of the Defense Industrial Base, Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao announced on Monday. Specifically, Magliochetti will function as the principal civilian advisor for the assistant secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition to manage growth and wellbeing of the service’s industrial supply chain, the Navy said.

“He will spearhead initiatives to expand the domestic manufacturing ecosystem, mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities, and integrate dual use commercial technologies to enhance the lethality of the Navy-Marine Corps team,” Cao said in a statement Monday.

Magliochetti’s appointment follows President Donald Trump’s wide-ranging National Security Presidential Memorandum ordering the Pentagon to “restore both capacity and competition to the maritime industrial base as it expands our naval force structure.”

“I am deeply honored to serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for the Defense Industrial Base,” Magliochetti said in a statement. “An agile, secure industrial base is the cornerstone of our combat readiness. I am committed to accelerating the delivery of resilient supply chains and cutting-edge, dual-use technologies directly into the hands of our warfighters to ensure our Sailors and Marines are ready for any high-end fight.”
