A major scandal has emerged at an airline company that operates flights in 47 countries worldwide. The company’s baggage handlers have been accused of stealing valuable items from passengers, including jewelry, electronic devices, and even chocolates. These incidents, revealed through three separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, have tarnished the company’s reputation. The scandal was brought to light by the striking confessions of the employees accused of theft.
At the heart of the scandal are missing diamond necklaces, luxury brand watches, and laptops. The suspects admitted to selling the stolen items and sharing the proceeds, while keeping some items for personal use. The thefts were uncovered by tracking signals from the stolen laptops, which led to the identification of the suspects’ addresses and the initiation of legal proceedings.
Two suspects were arrested, and searches conducted in the Istanbul Maltepe and Pendik areas revealed stolen items. The prosecution has requested prison sentences of up to 28 years for the suspects, under the charge of “Theft of Items from a Means of Transportation Available for Public Use.”
While the trials related to the incident continue, airline company officials condemned the incident and stated their commitment to ensuring the swift completion of the investigation.
