A Lufthansa aircraft was diverted to an airport in the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC) after the crew refused to land at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport due to unpreparedness. The plane will return to Germany.
According to Israel’s state television channel KAN, the flight from Munich was redirected to GCASC instead of its planned destination at Ben Gurion Airport because the crew was not ready to travel to Israel. Channel 12 reported that passengers were informed that the plane would land in GCASC for technical reasons and that it would be determined later whether the flight would continue to Israel.
Options Provided to Passengers
Lufthansa offered passengers the option to disembark in Larnaca, while their luggage would remain on the plane and be sent back to Germany. It was noted that the aircraft would return to Germany from Larnaca.
Other Airlines Also Made Similar Decisions
KAN reported that due to increasing regional tensions, American airlines Delta and United also canceled their flights to Ben Gurion Airport. Similarly, Lufthansa and Flydubai suspended their flights.
