Lufthansa plans to reinstate the free beverage service that was discontinued in the summer of 2021, a service that has seen high customer demand. The airline has begun testing free beverage service in economy class on short and medium-haul flights.
To assess the impact of offering free drinks such as tea and coffee on customer satisfaction, the airline will conduct various surveys. Three years ago, Lufthansa had stopped offering free drinks and snacks in economy class, except for a small bottle of water and a piece of chocolate, and began charging between 3 and 3.50 euros for hot beverages.
Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter stated that if the survey results are positive, the free beverage service might be fully reinstated. Additionally, since January 2024, Lufthansa has been offering free and unlimited messaging services on its short and medium-haul flights.
