At Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was commemorated with a meaningful ceremony on the 87th anniversary of his passing.
At 09:05 a.m. on the morning of 10 November, life came to a halt throughout the terminal as sirens sounded. From passport control points to check-in areas, a large number of participants observed a moment of silence in memory of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The National Anthem was then sung in unison.
As schools entered their mid-term break, numerous passengers at the airport joined in this meaningful moment, sharing their love, respect, and gratitude towards Atatürk.
Photo Area with Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen Attracted Great Interest
As part of the ceremony, a special greenbox photo area was set up, allowing passengers to take photos with Atatürk and his adopted daughter, Sabiha Gökçen — one of Türkiye’s first female pilots.
Created to keep collective memory alive and to convey Atatürk’s legacy to younger generations in a modern way, this area enabled visitors to appear in the same frame with Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen through digitally prepared visuals.
The photos taken using green screen technology were digitally processed and presented to guests as framed souvenir photos. These special photos became lasting symbols of the respect and gratitude felt towards the founder of the Republic.
Atatürk-Themed Desk Calendars Presented as Gifts
Passengers who took part in the commemoration ceremony and photo event were given specially designed desk calendars symbolising commitment to Atatürk’s principles and values. Prepared by the Sabiha Gökçen Airport Corporate Communications Team, the calendars were presented as a symbol of the determination to uphold the Republic, which Atatürk described as his “greatest work.”
