Emirates’ AI Initiative Against Turbulence Risks

Dubai-based Emirates Airline has started using AI-powered systems to reduce turbulence-related risks across its global network and enhance passenger comfort.

The company aims to take flight safety to a new level through real-time analytics, advanced weather forecasting tools, and data collected from pilot reports.

Experts note that due to changing atmospheric conditions, turbulence incidents are becoming more frequent and severe, emphasising the growing importance of digital technologies in this field.

“A Turbulence-Free Flight Is Impossible, But It Can Be Reduced”

Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Flight Operations, Captain Hassan Alhammadi, stated that completely turbulence-free flights are impossible, but the new systems are already showing their effectiveness.

“Our new technologies have contributed significantly to reducing unexpected severe turbulence events.

Through our active participation in IATA’s Turbulence Aware programme, we are providing valuable data and insights across the industry to tackle this growing meteorological challenge.”

Global Turbulence Data Shared via SkyPath

In collaboration with IATA and Lufthansa, Emirates shares data through the SkyPath platform, which integrates real-time turbulence reports from thousands of aircraft.

This platform allows pilots to access instant turbulence information during flights, enabling safer decisions regarding route and altitude.

The SkyPath system is expected to enhance turbulence prediction accuracy and strengthen passenger safety across the global aviation industry.

As part of its digital transformation strategy, Emirates is developing AI-based solutions across multiple processes, from flight operations to maintenance planning.
