Jet Offer to Jazeera Airways from Russia! Wet Lease Move Amid Aircraft Crisis

Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways has confirmed Russia’s wet lease request. The company announced that once the fleet expands, it is open to positioning aircraft in Russia.

While it is known that Russia, due to its ongoing aircraft supply crisis, has been making leasing proposals to foreign airlines, it has emerged that one of the companies approached is Kuwait-based Jazeera Airways. In line with the initiative by Russia’s Embassy in Kuwait, the offer was officially conveyed to the company management.

Jazeera Airways already operates actively in the Russian market. The airline, which initially launched its route network with the Sochi line, expanded it with flights to Moscow in February 2023. Today, daily flights are operated to Moscow; during the summer season, this number rises to two flights per day.

On the other hand, among the destinations served by Jazeera Airways during the Hajj and Umrah periods—when additional flights are operated to regions in Russia with a high Muslim population—is Makhachkala.

CEO Pasupathi: “Positioning two–three aircraft in Russia would be a great opportunity once the fleet expands”

In AturBülten’s interview with Jazeera Airways CEO Barathan Pasupathi, the question regarding Russia’s wet lease request also came up.

Confirming the offer, Pasupathi made the following statement:

“Yes, we are aware of this offer. The Russian Ambassador to Kuwait also approached us regarding this. However, Jazeera currently has only 23 aircraft. Once the fleet expands, we can discuss this matter. I think it would be a perfect opportunity to position at least two–three aircraft in Russia. Jazeera is looking forward to it. For us, this is not only interesting but extremely exciting.”

AturBülten reported this statement with the comment: “Jazeera Airways has announced that it is ready to lease aircraft to Russia under a wet lease model.”

Considering Russia’s aircraft shortage and expanding market opportunities, aviation cooperation between the two countries is expected to deepen further in the coming period.
