The Israeli Ministry of Defense has signed a $5.2 billion agreement with U.S.-based Boeing Co. for the acquisition of 25 next-generation F-15IA fighter jets. The deal, part of Israel’s military enhancement program funded through U.S. aid, includes an option for an additional 25 jets.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the F-15IA jets will be equipped with advanced weapon systems that can integrate with existing Israeli armaments. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2031, with 4 to 6 jets to be delivered annually. The aircraft feature extended range and increased payload capacity, giving the Israeli Air Force a strategic advantage in facing current and future challenges in the Middle East.
Eyal Zamir, Director General of the Ministry of Defense, emphasized that this acquisition will significantly strengthen Israel’s air force. He stated, “Together with the third F-35 squadron acquired earlier this year, the expanded F-15 fleet represents a historic increase in our air capabilities, which have proven crucial in ongoing conflicts.”
Increased Defense Procurement Following Gaza Conflict
Following the outbreak of the Gaza conflict on October 7, 2023, Israel has accelerated its defense procurement, signing agreements worth approximately $40 billion to meet urgent needs. Zamir highlighted that Israel is focused on both immediate advanced weapon and ammunition requirements as well as long-term strategic capabilities.
Boeing and Israel: A Longstanding Partnership
Boeing Israel President Ido Nehushtan remarked on the deep-rooted relationship between Boeing and Israel, dating back to Israel’s establishment. Nehushtan confirmed that Boeing would continue working closely with both U.S. and Israeli governments to facilitate F-15IA deliveries.
This F-15 agreement is Boeing’s second major contract with Israel this year. In August, El Al Israel Airlines signed a $2.5 billion agreement with Boeing for 31 Boeing 737 MAX jets, underscoring Boeing’s strong presence in both defense and commercial aviation sectors in Israel.
