Iran’s Ambassador to Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, commented on the Lebanese government’s decision to deny landing permission to Iranian aircraft operating the Tehran-Beirut route at Rafic Hariri International Airport. Amani urged the Lebanese government to lift the restrictions and stated that efforts were ongoing to normalize flights.
Amani noted that Mahan Air planes were denied landing permission in Beirut on Thursday and Friday, causing difficulties for passengers traveling from Lebanon. He stated that this decision was made following remarks by Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Avichay Adraee, who alleged that Iranian aircraft were transporting illicit cargo.
The ambassador mentioned that Lebanon could accept Iran Air’s proposal to resume flights to Beirut, but this would be conditional on ensuring that Iranian flights are not obstructed.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Reacts to Israel
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei accused Israel of disrupting Tehran-Beirut flights by threatening a civilian aircraft. Baghaei stated that Israel had violated Lebanon’s national sovereignty and called on international civil aviation organizations to take measures against such threats.
New Allegations from the Israeli Defense Forces
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Avichay Adraee claimed that Hezbollah and the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were transporting weapons through Beirut’s airport. Adraee alleged that weapons were being smuggled under the guise of civilian flights. These statements have sparked controversy among Hezbollah supporters and Iranian allies.
Flight Cancellations Leave Lebanese Passengers Stranded
According to local media reports, a Mahan Air flight was canceled because it did not receive the necessary landing permission in Beirut. The aircraft, which had taken off from Tehran, was unable to land and Lebanese passengers were left stranded in Tehran.
Statement from Lebanon’s Foreign Minister
Lebanese Foreign Minister Joe Raggi stated in an interview with Lebanon’s Al Jadeed television channel that the Foreign Ministry was actively working to resolve the issue with Iran.
