Turkey responded harshly to Dendias’ statements. In his speech in Northern Cyprus, President Erdoğan responded to Dendias’ remarks, saying:
“Unfortunately, there is a spoiled mentality in the south of the island that sees themselves as the sole ruler of Cyprus. The Greek leader attends ceremonies commemorating EOKA terrorists. When our Turkish Cypriot brothers cross to the south, they are attacked, and mosques in the south are set on fire. Recently, unfortunately, the Greek Defense Minister made mind-boggling statements again. I met with Mr. Mitsotakis and told him, ‘On the 20th, we will be in Northern Cyprus. I heard you will be in the south. I hope you won’t make any provocations… He said he wasn’t considering such a thing.”
