Tensions in the region have escalated following Israel’s recent strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. After the detonation of beepers in Lebanon and Hezbollah’s threat of potential retaliation, air traffic in the area has been impacted, prompting several European airlines to suspend flights to Israel.
German airline giant Lufthansa announced the suspension of all flights to Tel Aviv and Tehran, including those scheduled for September 19. In an official statement, the company said, “Due to the sudden change in the security situation in the region, the Lufthansa Group has immediately suspended all flights to Tel Aviv (TLV) and Tehran (IKA). This decision is valid through September 19.” The airline added that all Lufthansa Group carriers would be bypassing Israeli and Iranian airspace during this period.
In addition to Lufthansa, France’s Air France, Sweden’s Air Sweden, and Belgium’s national airline Brussels Airlines have also canceled flights to Israel. The increasing tension and security risks along the Israel-Lebanon border are driving these decisions.
