According to a statement from Baykar, the Bayraktar AKINCI Project, led by the Presidency of Defense Industries, continues to successfully integrate new domestically produced munitions and systems into the Bayraktar AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV).
On September 17, Bayraktar AKINCI took off from the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ, and tested the TOLUN IIR guided munition, developed by Aselsan, at the Konya Karapınar Firing Test and Evaluation Center. The TOLUN, fired from an altitude of 22,000 feet, hit its target 20 kilometers away with pinpoint accuracy.
The TOLUN IIR boasts an 80-kilometer range and a dual-way data link that allows real-time image transmission to the control center. These features enable the munition to lock onto the target effectively until the last moment. The integration of national munitions into Bayraktar AKINCI UCAV marks significant progress in the project. The company aims to receive regulatory approval by 2026 and begin flights in 2027.
Baykar has successfully tested various national munitions to date. In a test conducted on February 24, Bayraktar AKINCI successfully destroyed a target at sea using the ASELFLIR-500 system. Additionally, Bayraktar AKINCI C, powered by 2 X 850 hp engines, remained airborne for over an hour, successfully testing aerodynamic parameters.
As Turkey’s first manufacturer of national unmanned aerial vehicles, Baykar achieved $1.8 billion in exports in 2023, solidifying its leadership in the defense industry. Export agreements have been signed with 34 countries for the Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar AKINCI.
