Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the European Aviation Overview Report dated July 24 by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). According to Minister Uraloğlu, Turkey ranked 6th among European countries with the highest traffic volume, averaging 3,959 flights per day for the period of July 15 – 21.
Istanbul Airport is Europe’s Busiest
Minister Uraloğlu noted that Istanbul Airport maintained its status as Europe’s busiest airport with an average of 1,485 flights per day, surpassing Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam airports. “Istanbul Airport ranked 7th globally and first among European airports,” he said.
Antalya Airport in the Top 10
Uraloğlu stated that Antalya Airport ranked 8th among the busiest airports in Europe with a daily average of 1,036 flights, ahead of Palma de Mallorca and Rome Fiumicino Airports. “Antalya Airport once again proved to be one of Europe’s most important airports with its heavy traffic,” he added.
Turkish Airspace Among the Most Efficient
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that Turkish airspace is among the most efficient in Europe, with delays of less than 0.5 minutes per flight. “While the average delay per flight in EUROCONTROL airspace is 7.5 minutes, in Turkish airspace this duration fell below 0.5 minutes. This shows how efficient our airspace is,” he said.
Budapest Has the Longest Delays
Uraloğlu pointed out that Budapest airspace experienced the longest delays, with an average of 9.4 minutes due to restrictions stemming from Ukrainian airspace. “Turkish airspace, on the other hand, was among the most efficient during this period, with delays of less than 0.5 minutes per flight,” he added.
Turkey’s Air Traffic at the Top
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the EUROCONTROL report once again highlighted Turkey’s strong position in aviation. “The density of our airports and the efficiency of our airspace demonstrate our country’s success in the aviation sector. I congratulate all our employees who contributed to this success,” he said.
