Ercan Airport Pays Kıb-Tek 20 Million TL: Holds 70 Million TL Receivable

T&T Airport Operations Ltd., the operator of Ercan Airport, announced that it regularly pays its electricity bills and made a payment of 20.3 million TL to the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek) earlier this week. However, after the new electricity tariff set by the Council of Ministers for Ercan, T&T has a receivable of 70 million TL from Kıb-Tek. As a result, payments are made “under protest” due to the tariff dispute.

Since Ercan Airport became operational in July 2023, payments have been made in installments according to payment plans, addressing the tariff differences that have accumulated. Despite these receivables, Ercan’s monthly electricity bill remains around 20 million TL, and the company has no outstanding debt to Kıb-Tek.

Ongoing Issues with the Medium Voltage Network

Although payment issues have been resolved, problems with the medium voltage network at Ercan Airport persist. It has been reported that Kıb-Tek is still facing challenges in the process of transferring the medium voltage line to the airport operator. Once the network is transferred to the operator, Kıb-Tek is expected to reduce some costs, and the operator will be able to respond to faults more quickly.

Call for Cooperation from T&T General Manager Özçelik

T&T General Manager Serhat Özçelik stated that the difficulties stemming from the early commissioning of the airport are being swiftly addressed, and the operator aims to achieve a higher level of service quality in the near future. Özçelik called for accurate identification of the sources of the issues by public institutions and the media, emphasizing the importance of their contributions to solving these problems. He added, “We are in full cooperation with our public institutions.”

Revenue Share Payments on the Rise

T&T Airport Operations Ltd. operates Ercan under a revenue-sharing agreement with the government. Recently, it was reported that the company made a revenue share payment of 700 million TL to the Ministry of Finance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in 2024. The payment for the third quarter of the year alone amounted to 300 million TL, and revenue share payments have been increasing over time.
