National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Chief Hakan Fidan made significant statements during a live broadcast on Haber Global, providing striking insights into both regional and global developments. Fidan delivered notable messages on issues ranging from the Israel-Palestine conflict to Turkey’s foreign policy moves.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
Hakan Fidan referred to Israel’s operations in Gaza, describing the situation in Palestine as “genocide.” He emphasized that Gaza has become an open-air graveyard where tens of thousands of innocent people have been massacred and reaffirmed Turkey’s clear stance on the matter: “Turkey strongly condemns this inhumane situation in the region and calls on the international community to take immediate action.”
Uncertainty Regarding the Death of Hamas Leader
Fidan also made a noteworthy comment regarding claims that Hamas Political Bureau Chief Yahya Sinwar had been killed. He stated that Turkey is awaiting confirmation, adding, “So far, no official statement has been made by Hamas, nor has there been a denial. Therefore, the claims remain unconfirmed.”
High Probability of an Iran-Israel War
Responding to a question about the likelihood of a war between Iran and Israel, Fidan said this scenario was highly probable. He emphasized Turkey’s opposition to opening a new front in the region, stating, “Such a war would further destabilize the region. However, we cannot overlook the need to be prepared for this possibility.”
Turkey’s Strong Strategic Position
Fidan highlighted Turkey’s efforts over the past 20 years in ending conflicts and promoting peace, underlining the country’s regional leadership. “Turkey is in a prime position to conduct geopolitical analysis in the region. We closely monitor both regional and global developments and take proactive steps,” he said.
Determination in Syria and Fight Against the PKK
Fidan also addressed Turkey’s stance on the presence of the PKK in Syria, mentioning ongoing discussions with the U.S. He reiterated Turkey’s firm position on the issue: “Turkey will protect its security at all costs. We have clearly stated that the U.S. must end its cooperation on this matter. As in Syria, we will not hesitate to protect our interests.”
Normalization Process with Greece
Fidan mentioned the ongoing positive process in Turkey-Greece relations, noting that both countries are taking steps to reduce tensions. “Turkey always favors resolving issues through diplomatic means. However, our military remains prepared for any provocations,” he said.
Potential BRICS Membership
Fidan also commented on the possibility of Turkey joining BRICS, stating that the economic and strategic benefits of this platform are under consideration. “As our President has said, we are closely following the developments with BRICS. We continue our contacts to see what added value this platform can provide for us,” he added.
Green Light for the Eurofighter Project
Discussing Turkey’s steps in the defense industry, Fidan announced that Germany is ready for technical talks regarding Eurofighter fighter jets. “We have received support from the UK, Italy, and Spain on this matter. With Germany’s positive steps, the process will accelerate,” he concluded.
