Flight preparations have accelerated for KAAN’s new Block-10 prototype. While August 30 stands out as the strongest possibility for the maiden flight, the delivery schedule has also started to become clear.
System verification and integration activities are continuing on P1, the new Block-10 configured prototype of Türkiye’s 5th-generation fighter jet KAAN. As August 30 emerges as a leading option for the first flight, the delivery timeline is also beginning to take shape.
A critical phase has gained momentum in Türkiye’s National Combat Aircraft KAAN program. It has been learned that intensive pre-flight preparations are ongoing for P1, the new prototype of the 5th-generation fighter jet developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). While system verification and avionics integration tests continue on the Block-10 configured prototype, whose production process has been completed, attention has now turned to the maiden flight date.
For the new prototype, which has generated significant interest within defense industry circles, August 30 Victory Day is being considered one of the strongest options due to its symbolic and strategic significance.
Critical Testing Process Begins for KAAN’s New Prototype
According to obtained information, the new prototype named P1 has been built with more advanced systems compared to previous KAAN prototypes. In particular, the testing process of the national avionics infrastructure developed under the Block-10 configuration is regarded as one of the most critical stages of the program.
While avionics integration activities continue, it was also stated that the statically configured test aircraft prepared simultaneously has been sent for ground testing. As a result, the verification process ahead of the flight test phase has significantly accelerated within the KAAN program.
August 30 Stands Out
According to defense aviation sources, TUSAŞ is working on multiple date scenarios for the maiden flight of the new prototype. Within this scope, August 30 Victory Day is considered a strong option due to both its symbolic and strategic importance.
Although the official flight date has not yet been announced, it is considered almost certain that KAAN’s new prototype will take to the skies within 2026.
KAAN Delivery Timeline Becomes Clearer
According to the activity report published by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the first production configuration of KAAN, the Block-10 aircraft, is planned to enter the inventory of the Turkish Air Force between 2027 and 2029.
KAAN, regarded as one of Türkiye’s most strategic defense industry projects, is expected to become the main striking force of the Turkish Air Force in the future.
Indigenous Radar and Critical Sensors to Be Integrated
According to details included in the report, national systems developed by ASELSAN will be used in KAAN Block-10 aircraft.
MURAD AESA Radar Draws Attention
The MURAD 600-A AESA radar system, which will operate on KAAN, has been developed with active electronically scanned array architecture. The next-generation radar is expected to provide major advantages in target tracking, electronic warfare, and high-precision engagement capabilities.
KARAT IRST and TOYGUN EOTS to Be Integrated
It was also stated that KAAN will feature the KARAT Infrared Search and Track System (IRST) and the TOYGUN Electro-Optical Targeting System (EOTS).
These systems are expected to provide the fighter jet with advanced target detection, tracking, and situational awareness capabilities.
F110 Engines to Be Used in the First Block
According to the report, the first production aircraft of KAAN will be powered by General Electric F110-GE-129 turbofan engines.
While the program is planned to initially proceed with the existing and proven engine infrastructure, a transition toward a fully indigenous engine solution is targeted in the later phases of the program.
Indigenous-Engine KAAN Targeted
The development process of the national engine, considered one of the most critical phases of the KAAN program, is also continuing. Türkiye’s domestically developed TF35000 turbofan engine is planned to be integrated into future blocks.
TF35000 Aims to Deliver Supercruise Capability
The next-generation TF35000 engine is expected to provide high thrust, low thermal signature, and supercruise capability. In this way, KAAN’s operational performance is aimed to be elevated to an even higher level.
The program also plans to gradually integrate national munitions, next-generation mission computers, and advanced sensor fusion systems into the aircraft.
One of Türkiye’s Most Strategic Defense Projects
KAAN is regarded as one of Türkiye’s most critical defense projects with its low observability, advanced sensor fusion, network-centric warfare capability, and high situational awareness features.
With the completion of the national fighter jet project, Türkiye is expected to further strengthen its position among the limited number of countries capable of developing a 5th-generation fighter aircraft.
