Delta Air Lines has expanded its position at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with its largest schedule yet out of the hub. The capacity increase for summer 2027 comes as United Airlines cancels holiday flights, while Southwest Airlines has also cut its capacity growth in half due to the ongoing fuel crisis.
Delta is instead focusing on expanding at the most competitive airport in the U.S. The airline announced new routes and premium features that will elevate the experience for passengers flying out of LAX.
On the way to John F. Kennedy International Airport, Delta flight DL45 issued an emergency signal and abandoned its journey.
The big three airlines are all active at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). American Airlines runs out of Terminal 4, with check-ins in Terminal 5, while United operates out of Terminals 7 and Terminals 8.
As for Delta Air Lines, the carrier has now bolstered its presence at one of the most competitive hubs in America. The carrier has just announced a bold expansion at LAX next summer, operating its largest and most premium experience ever at the hub. Along with its over 200 daily departures during the busiest time period in the summer, Delta is transforming the LAX experience with a more premium feel.
With the expansion and focus on premium, Delta is bolstering its status as the top airline out of the hub.

With its largest expansion yet for summer 2027, Delta will have options to nearly 70 different destinations at LAX. The carrier will be the only airline to serve flights from every airport in the top ten.
The airline's expansion includes new flights and revised frequencies.
In its LAX expansion, Delta has added two new key routes to Monterey and Philadelphia. The Monterey route will begin on December 19, 2026, with two daily nonstop flights. The Philadelphia route debuts June 7, 2027.

In addition to the new nonstop flights, Delta will offer a wide variety of increased frequencies across the U.S. to some of the biggest cities, including Seattle, Boston, and Houston.
Twice-daily nonstop service beginning Dec. 19, 2026, operated by Delta Connection using an Embraer 175 aircraft. The new route gives Angelenos easier access to California’s Central Coast, including Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur, ahead of one of golf’s biggest championships next summer. (Delta will also launch daily nonstop service between Salt Lake City and Monterey the same day.)

Delta has other major connections from Los Angeles to international destinations. The airline is expanding from LAX by increasing service to Melbourne on December 22, along with returns to Auckland starting October 25, 2026.
Delta also expanded its international routes from LAX with new service to Shanghai and Hong Kong, along with service to Vancouver and Manila.
Along with the new routes, Delta is promoting a premium experience "from curb to cabin." The carrier is enhancing the travel experience with more premium seat options out of LAX than any other airline.
Additionally, Delta's Sky Way has become a stunning area that supports the carrier's growth. The enhancements include improved security and terminal amenities, along with expansions and wayfinding improvements.
LAX is also the first airport to offer two Delta One Lounges, with the new Delta Sky Club opening in 2027 in Terminal 2. By 2028, the carrier is planning to have four dedicated lounge spaces at LAX, including two Delta Sky Clubs, along with two Delta One Lounges.
Delta's expansion at LAX is commendable in several ways, with new summer routes coming next year and a greater emphasis on a premium experience. Travelers now have access to more premium seats than ever, with more options than any other airline.
