The Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday it approved a waiver of airplane emissions rules to allow Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab to sell another 35 777F freighters after 2028. The waiver will allow Boeing to sell the planes for another three years after new emissions rules take effect on January 1, 2028, which would have barred the sale of the plane. Boeing in December 2025 had requested approval, citing strong customer demand and a delay in the next-generation plane’s certification.
Boeing welcomed the FAA’s decision, pointing to continued demand for dedicated air freight capacity and the need to bridge the period before the 777-8F enters service.
