A bomb threat on a Turkish Airlines (THY) passenger flight from Gaziantep to Istanbul caused moments of fear among passengers. The threat, received while the aircraft was in the air during the night, led to an emergency return and landing at Gaziantep Airport. Passengers were evacuated and taken to the VIP terminal, while one passenger was taken into custody.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff. The pilot announced the bomb threat to passengers, leading to widespread panic some passengers became unwell, while others broke into tears. The cabin crew managed the evacuation quickly and calmly.
Following the evacuation, passengers were kept in the VIP terminal until morning. During this time, security units conducted thorough searches of the aircraft and passenger luggage. No explosive device was found during inspections with bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
It was reported that a passenger exhibiting suspicious behaviour was detained, and their possible connection to the bomb threat is being investigated. The event once again brought Turkish Airlines’ security protocols into focus and turned into an unforgettable night for passengers.
