The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Philadelphia police announced that flights to Philadelphia International Airport were temporarily halted on Friday evening due to a bomb threat. According to authorities, the threat was resolved without any incidents after a rapid assessment process.
The FAA reported that a bomb threat had been made at the airport shortly after 7:00 PM local time, issuing a temporary flight suspension notice. In a second statement about 30 minutes later, it was stated that the security issue had been resolved and flight operations had returned to normal.
Police: “Philadelphia Police Needed Assistance on a Plane”
A Philadelphia police spokesperson stated via email that the grounding of flights occurred because “Philadelphia Police needed assistance on a plane.” After the threat was assessed, the relevant aircraft was allowed to depart, and the ground stop was lifted.
Consecutive Bomb Threats at U.S. Airports This Month
Earlier this month, similar bomb threats were recorded at other U.S. airports.
At Reagan Washington National Airport, operations were briefly halted due to a bomb threat targeting United Airlines; FBI investigations found no danger.
On the same day, a Delta plane preparing to depart from LaGuardia International Airport was also evacuated before takeoff due to a bomb threat.
Authorities stated that all threats were resolved without issue and that all necessary procedures were followed to ensure passenger safety.
