A Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Virgin Australia made an emergency landing after an engine caught fire. According to ABC News Australia, officials at Queenstown Airport in New Zealand reported that one of the engines of flight “VA148” caught fire shortly after takeoff.
Authorities stated that the Boeing 737, which took off at 17:50 local time heading to Melbourne, Australia, safely landed at Invercargill Airport on the South Island.
Virgin Australia Chief Operating Officer Stuart Aggs suggested that the fire might have been caused by a bird strike. There has been no statement yet regarding the health status of the 67 passengers and 6 crew members on board.
