Sources close to Azerbaijani state institutions have categorically refuted the Daily Express report claiming that “Baku secretly delivered Su-22 fighter jets to Ukraine.”
The report alleged that Azerbaijan supplied fighter aircraft to Ukraine, that deliveries were made via indirect routes through Türkiye, Sudan and Germany, and that the aircraft were shipped under the label of “humanitarian cargo.”
“Does Not Reflect the Truth”
Azerbaijani sources stated that the Daily Express claims have no factual basis and emphasised that the report is politically motivated. The Baku administration underlined that it acts in full compliance with its international obligations, particularly regarding the transfer of military equipment.
Modernisation Process Misinterpreted
The British report also claimed that Azerbaijan, as part of its military modernisation efforts, is attempting to clear out its stock of Soviet-era equipment and views the Ukrainian market as “a place where anything can be sold.”
Baku sources, however, stated that the modernisation process is a natural part of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ standards-upgrade plan and cannot be associated with secret military sales to other countries as suggested in the report.
