Greece to Become Indian Travellers’ New Favourite with Direct Athens–India Flights Starting in 2026
Greece is rapidly becoming a priority destination for Indian travellers in 2026. Led by Aegean Airlines and IndiGo Airlines, direct flights will be introduced between Athens and India’s megacities, New Delhi and Mumbai. This strategic move aims to showcase Greece’s sun, sea, and cultural experiences to India’s fast-growing tourism market.
The new routes will shorten travel times for Indian tourists, making Athens more accessible and appealing to a wide range of passengers with both luxury and budget options. From March 2026, Aegean Airlines will operate five weekly flights to New Delhi, followed by three weekly flights to Mumbai from May 2026. Operating with Airbus A321neo XLR aircraft, the airline will offer premium business class suites with lie-flat beds, high-resolution entertainment, and satellite Wi-Fi for an elite in-flight experience. Economy passengers will enjoy ergonomic seating and modern comforts.
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, will also begin flying to Athens from March 2026, expanding its network of international destinations in Europe. This development will establish a direct, cost-effective, and high-volume travel corridor between India and Southern Europe.
According to research by the Greek Tourism Research Institute INSETE, more than 72% of Indian travellers plan to travel abroad in 2025. With direct access, islands such as Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes, along with Greece’s cultural and historical landmarks, are becoming more attractive than ever to Indian tourists.
These direct connections will boost not only leisure tourism but also destination weddings, MICE events, and cultural tours. Greece is preparing to welcome Indian visitors with hospitality services tailored to cultural preferences and digital travel guides.
This new air bridge between Athens and India will strengthen cultural, tourism, and economic ties between the two nations, positioning Greece as an unmissable destination for Indian travellers.
