Airline Transportation in Turkey is Growing: 104 Million Passengers Served in the First Six Months of 2024

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that in June 2024, a total of 22,723,642 passengers were served at airports across Turkey. Compared to the same period last year, there was a 7.9% increase in passenger traffic. In the first six months of 2024, domestic passenger traffic reached 46,157,020, international passenger traffic was 58,568,244, and the number of transit passengers was 108,126. Thus, a total of 104,833,309 passengers were served.

Increase in Aircraft Traffic

Minister Uraloğlu shared the June 2024 statistics from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ). He noted that there were 83,021 flights on domestic routes, 88,322 flights on international routes, and a total of 217,663 flights, including overflights. Uraloğlu stated that compared to June 2023, there was a 3.8% increase in domestic aircraft traffic, a 6% increase in international aircraft traffic, and a 6.4% increase in total aircraft traffic.

Record Number of Passengers at Istanbul Airport

In June, Istanbul Airport saw a total of 45,314 flights, with 10,817 on domestic routes and 34,497 on international routes. During this period, 7,055,051 passengers were served. Compared to the same month last year, aircraft traffic increased by 1% and passenger traffic by 4%.

Increase in Passengers at Sabiha Gökçen Airport

At Sabiha Gökçen Airport, there were 10,151 domestic flights and 10,853 international flights in June. A total of 3,613,714 passengers were served. Compared to June 2023, aircraft traffic increased by 4% and passenger traffic by 13%.

Six-Month Data

In the first six months of 2024, the number of aircraft landing and taking off at airports was 431,991 on domestic routes and 387,113 on international routes, totaling 1,071,801 flights. Passenger traffic was 46,157,020 on domestic routes and 58,568,244 on international routes, with a total of 104,833,309 passengers, including transit passengers. There was a 10.2% increase in domestic passenger traffic, a 13.1% increase in international passenger traffic, and an overall increase of 11.6%.

Intensity at Tourism Hubs

In the first six months, a total of 23,891,091 passengers were served at airports in tourism hubs. At İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, 5,311,478 passengers were served; at Antalya Airport, 14,574,033 passengers; at Muğla Dalaman Airport, 2,002,226 passengers; at Muğla Milas-Bodrum Airport, 1,574,123 passengers; and at Gazipaşa Alanya Airport, 429,231 passengers.

Minister Uraloğlu stated that these increases indicate significant growth in Turkey’s airline transportation sector and that they will continue to improve service quality.
