The Royal Thai Air Force has ordered two Airbus C295 tactical transport aircraft to strengthen Thailand’s defence and transport capabilities.
The aircraft will be operated by the 46th Wing Division of the Royal Thai Air Force from Phitsanulok air base.
Thailand already operates three Airbus C295 aircraft through the Royal Thai Army, which have been used for cargo and troop transport operations since 2016.
The newly ordered aircraft will be assembled at Airbus Defence and Space facilities in Seville, Spain, with the first delivery expected in the first half of 2029.
Configured for tactical transport operations, the C295 aircraft can carry up to 70 troops or 49 paratroopers. The aircraft are also designed to operate on unprepared runways and support missions including cargo transport, paratrooper deployment and medical evacuation.
Airbus also continues its partnership with Thai Aviation Industries (TAI), supporting maintenance operations and technical training related to Thailand’s C295 fleet.
Thailand is among several Asia-Pacific countries operating the C295 aircraft platform for military transport and logistics operations.
Airbus stated that the C295 programme has recorded more than 333 aircraft orders globally across 39 countries, with the fleet accumulating more than 750,000 flight hours worldwide.
The order further reflects continued defence aviation cooperation between Thailand and Airbus as regional demand for tactical airlift and transport aircraft continues to grow.
