Latvia’s national airline, AirBaltic, has placed an additional order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft as part of its fleet expansion strategy. With this new order, AirBaltic’s confirmed total A220 orders have reached 90. This move further solidifies AirBaltic’s position as the largest A220 customer in Europe and one of the largest operators of this model globally.
Leading the Way in Europe
AirBaltic has played a significant role in the aviation industry since becoming the launch customer for the Airbus A220-300 in 2016. The airline, which has been operating with the A220 for many years, aims to strengthen its fleet even further with these new orders. AirBaltic is the largest operator of the A220 family in Europe, and globally, only Delta Airlines operates more A220 aircraft.
Airbus Thanks AirBaltic
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Vice President of Sales for Airbus Commercial Aircraft, commented on AirBaltic’s new order, saying, “AirBaltic’s commitment and support for the A220 are strong indicators of the superior value and operational opportunities this aircraft provides.” As of July, Airbus had received over 900 orders for the A220 worldwide, with approximately 350 of these already delivered.
Eco-Friendly and Economical Flights
AirBaltic plans to enhance its operational efficiency with the eco-friendly and economical A220-300. The aircraft consumes 2.6 liters of fuel per passenger per 100 km, using 20% to 25% less fuel compared to previous-generation aircraft. Deliveries of the new orders are set to begin in 2026. AirBaltic CEO Martin Gauss stated, “We are reinforcing our confidence in the A220 program and are eager to expand our fleet.”
