Israel’s new airline, Air Haifa, made a significant move into the international market with its first flight from Tel Aviv to Larnaca, Cyprus, on Monday. This inaugural flight marks a milestone for the airline and signals future plans for expansion.
Flights Starting at $60
Air Haifa gained attention by offering affordable ticket prices. According to Globes, some passengers purchased tickets for as low as $60. The Jerusalem Post reports that future Haifa-Larnaca flights are expected to start at $69 one way, while round-trip tickets will begin at $81. Meanwhile, Tel Aviv-Larnaca fares are expected to range between $119 and $199.
New Destinations: Greece and Turkey
Currently, Air Haifa operates domestic flights to Eilat, but following its success with Cyprus, the airline plans to expand its international routes to include Greece and Turkey. This expansion aims to boost the airline’s competitiveness in the region.
Bees Airlines Begins Flights to Israel
In addition to Air Haifa, Ukrainian airline Bees Airlines has also started flying to Israel. Acquired by Romanian investors, Bees Airlines began regular flights from Bucharest to Tel Aviv in August. According to Globes, Bees Airlines’ flights are drawing attention for their high occupancy rates, in contrast to Air Haifa’s return flight from Larnaca, which was “almost empty,” likely due to regional political tensions.
European Airlines Suspend Israel Flights
While Air Haifa and Bees Airlines are increasing flight options to Israel, major European airlines have suspended flights to the country. Despite the EU’s lifting of flight restrictions, major carriers such as Delta Airlines, Air France, Wizz Air, and LOT have halted flights to Israel. Wizz Air, for example, has suspended flights until January 2025.
Impact of Regional Tensions on Aviation
Rising tensions between Israel and its neighboring countries have led many airlines to suspend operations. However, new entrants like Air Haifa and Bees Airlines aim to fill this gap by offering budget-friendly options despite the challenging geopolitical environment.
