Pilot Error: Technician’s Legs Crushed Under Aircraft

A shocking accident at Russia’s Koltsovo Airport left Ural Airlines technician Rail Khasanov with life-altering injuries after an Airbus A320’s landing gear ran over his legs during taxi preparations. Security footage captured the terrifying moment as Khasanov was struck by the plane’s massive wheels, resulting in a severe injury that led to the amputation of one of his legs.

Khasanov miraculously survived the incident, despite the extensive damage. He recounted the ordeal, stating, “I felt the huge wheel roll over my legs. I could hear my bones cracking. At first, I didn’t feel pain because of the shock, but I remained conscious the entire time.”

Following the accident, doctors placed Khasanov in a medically induced coma and performed an emergency amputation at his hip. Five days later, he regained consciousness, maintaining a positive outlook despite the tragic circumstances. With humor, he remarked, “When I woke up, it wasn’t heaven, but I was alive and talking.”

The investigation concluded that the pilot was at fault, resulting in a compensation settlement of £16,000 for Khasanov. He is now in the process of adapting to life with a prosthetic leg. While Khasanov continues to work at Ural Airlines, he mentioned that he no longer sees himself preparing planes for takeoff, but is confident the airline will find him a new role within the company.
