On February 13, 2020, Atlasjet Aviation Inc. filed for bankruptcy. The company’s owner, Ali Murat Ersoy, is known as the twin brother of the Minister of Tourism, Mehmet Ersoy. This bankruptcy process led to significant hardship for nearly 2,000 employees who were unable to collect their unpaid wages and severance pay, causing major distress just before the pandemic.
On June 17, 2021, despite objections, the 3rd Civil Court of First Instance accepted the bankruptcy and initiated a new process. During this period, the AZAP Platform and the HAVA-SEN Union held a Board Meeting to assess the situation and share all obtained information and documents with the court.
The Bankruptcy Office established by the Bakırköy Courthouse Enforcement Bankruptcy Court seized all companies and assets belonging to Atlasjet and its subsidiaries and put them up for auction.
Most recently, the 6th Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court, with decision number 2024/657 and 2024/2135, approved the bankruptcy file ratified by the 17th Civil Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice. With this decision, the Bankruptcy Office will begin prioritizing payments to employees. Payments to other creditors will be made according to the established payment schedule.
