Trabzon Airport will be closed to flight traffic tonight from 2:00 AM to 8:00 AM due to runway maintenance work. Airport officials have announced that all night flights have been canceled.
Trabzon Airport, one of Turkey’s most important airports, is often in the spotlight for its frequently maintained runway. The runway, which was resurfaced in 2020, is undergoing its sixth maintenance in four years. The work to be carried out tonight will temporarily halt air traffic, and the airport will be closed to flights.
Ongoing Maintenance at Trabzon Airport
Trabzon Airport was closed for approximately two months starting on April 23, 2020, due to runway renovation work and was reopened for air traffic afterward. However, the runway was taken back into maintenance five months later for a two-week project that involved upgrading the lighting system and cables. On August 20, 2021, the airport was again closed to flights due to a crack in the runway.
The Trabzon Airport runway has been periodically closed for maintenance on various dates. Most recently, the runway was closed for maintenance in July and December last year. The maintenance work to be carried out tonight is intended to make the runway safer. Airport officials have stated that flights will resume as normal once the maintenance work is completed.
