The schedule has been brought forward in the KAAN fighter jet program developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu announced that the first deliveries under the program have been moved to an earlier date. This development has also created new opportunities for Pakistan, one of the countries involved in the project.
Delivery Schedule Accelerated
According to the statement, the delivery process in the KAAN program has been accelerated. Accordingly, the first aircraft are targeted to be delivered by:
- The end of 2028
- The first quarter of 2029
This timeline is considered a significant advancement compared to the previously projected post-2030 schedule.
Prototype Flight Tests Intensify
It is planned that KAAN prototypes developed under the program will undergo comprehensive testing processes in the upcoming period. Four to six prototypes are expected to be tested in critical phases such as:
- High-altitude flights
- Supersonic speed tests
- High maneuverability trials
Pakistan Included in the Production Process
Pakistan’s role in the project is not limited to being a buyer country. It is stated that approximately 200 Pakistani engineers are contributing to the program, while efforts to establish a joint production facility between the two countries are also ongoing.
In this context, it is aimed to position Pakistan as a production partner in the KAAN program.

Fifth-Generation Fighter Jet Objective
KAAN stands out as a fifth-generation fighter jet designed with low observability features, internal weapon systems, and advanced sensor infrastructure. With this project, Türkiye aims to become one of the limited number of countries capable of producing aircraft in this category.
Impact on Regional Power Balance
Experts assess that Pakistan’s inclusion in the KAAN program could have an impact on regional air power balances. The project is expected to contribute to the modernization process of the Pakistan Air Force and enhance its deterrence capacity.
Domestic Systems and Engine Development Process
It is stated that domestic engine development efforts are also ongoing within the program. The TF35000 engine is being developed with a 2032 target, and it is also planned to increase the localization rate in sensor and avionics systems.
Rising Export Potential
It is noted that international interest in the KAAN program is increasing and that the project has high long-term export potential. It is considered that it could become an important option, especially for countries seeking alternative suppliers.
Towards the Operational Phase
With the prototypes entering the testing phase, the KAAN program is progressing toward the operational stage. Following the initial flights and tests, it is anticipated that active service will begin towards the end of the 2020s.
