İGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen: İGA’s Goal Is to Become the World’s Busiest Airport
Selahattin Bilgen, CEO of İGA Istanbul Airport, appeared as a guest on the BBC World News programme Talking Business, where he assessed the airport’s contributions to the Turkish economy, its global connectivity strength and its strategic role in the cargo sector.
Answering questions from BBC’s experienced presenter Aaron Heslehurst, Bilgen drew attention to İGA Istanbul Airport’s growth performance in recent years and its sustainability-focused investments.
Europe’s Busiest Airport Sets Its Sights Higher
Stating that İGA Istanbul Airport has retained the title of Europe’s busiest airport for four consecutive years, Selahattin Bilgen said that the steady increase in passenger numbers is a result of its strong global connectivity network.
Bilgen noted that the ultimate goal of iGA management is to become the world’s busiest airport.
Global Connectivity and Cargo Excellence
During the programme, it was highlighted that İGA Istanbul Airport has become a major hub not only for passenger transportation but also for cargo operations. Bilgen stated that capacity and efficiency in air cargo transportation make a direct contribution to Türkiye’s foreign trade and economic growth.
Sustainability and Renewable Energy Investments
Touching on the sustainability vision in the interview, Bilgen stated that İGA Istanbul Airport aims to strengthen its operations through renewable energy sources. In this context, he said that an on-site solar power plant investment has been implemented to reduce environmental impact.
