Naked Passenger Attempts to Enter Cockpit, Plane Returns to Origin

Virgin Atlantic flight VA696, en route to Australia, was forced to return after a passenger attempted to enter the cockpit while running naked through the aisle. The incident occurred approximately an hour after the plane took off from Perth Airport.

The naked passenger reportedly pounded on the cockpit door before being restrained. The flight was bound for Melbourne, but due to the man’s sudden and erratic behavior, the aircraft had to turn back. Two air marshals handcuffed and detained the man until the plane landed.

A witness shared details of the incident with radio station 3AW, stating: “A male passenger suddenly went berserk and started running up and down the aisle, hitting the cockpit door. Two air marshals had to restrain him until the plane landed.”

Virgin Atlantic issued a statement saying, “On Monday, May 27, flight VA696 from Perth to Melbourne returned to Perth due to a disruptive passenger onboard. Upon arrival in Perth, the plane was met by the Australian Federal Police, and the disruptive guest was offloaded. The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority, and we sincerely apologize to our affected guests.”

The incident is under investigation by the Australian Federal Police (AFP). An AFP spokesperson stated, “AFP officers arrested a man who allegedly ran naked through the aircraft and knocked a crew member to the ground during the flight. The man was taken to the hospital and is still being held there. He is expected to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on June 14.”
