According to the European Aviation Report published by EUROCONTROL for the period of 9–15 February, Istanbul Airport became Europe’s busiest airport with a daily average of 1,437 flights.
As one of Türkiye’s mega projects, Istanbul Airport strengthened its position as an international transfer hub and maintained its leadership in European aviation traffic.
Since the day it opened, Istanbul Airport has broken numerous records and, thanks to its strong infrastructure and extensive flight network, has outpaced its competitors across Europe.
Ranking of Europe’s Busiest Airports
According to EUROCONTROL data for the 9–15 February period, Europe’s busiest airports were ranked as follows:
- Istanbul Airport – 1,437 flights
- Heathrow Airport – 1,285 flights
- Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport – 1,203 flights
- Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport – 1,167 flights
Sabiha Gökçen Also in the Top 10
Meanwhile, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport ranked as Europe’s 10th busiest airport, with a daily average of 741 flights.
According to the data released by EUROCONTROL, Istanbul has become a major hub in European aviation traffic with its two major airports.
