DHMI August 2025 Report: 261,755 Flights, 511,000 Tonnes of Cargo Transported

Record Growth in Air Traffic

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared the aircraft, passenger and cargo statistics for August 2025 prepared by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI).

Uraloğlu stated that there was a significant increase in flight traffic at passenger- and eco-friendly airports, with 101,329 domestic and 104,661 international flights. Including overflights, total air traffic reached 261,755. This figure represents a 12.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

27.6 Million Passengers in One Month

In August, 10,461,008 passengers were served on domestic routes and 17,202,843 on international routes. Including direct transit passengers, a total of 27,678,020 people travelled by air.

Compared to the same month last year, passenger traffic rose by 9.7%. Cargo traffic also reached notable levels: 104,656 tonnes on domestic routes and 407,331 tonnes on international routes, totalling 511,987 tonnes.

162.6 Million Passengers in January–August

In the first eight months of 2025, 654,086 domestic and 616,853 international flights were recorded. With overflights included, the total reached 1,649,035, marking a 7% year-on-year increase.

Passenger traffic reached 67,036,713 on domestic routes and 95,493,971 on international routes, totalling 162,627,771 passengers—a 4.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Cargo transportation also performed strongly. Between January and August, 621,155 tonnes were handled on domestic routes and 2,725,467 tonnes on international routes, amounting to 3,346,622 tonnes in total.

Istanbul Airport Welcomed 55.2 Million Passengers

Istanbul Airport, one of Turkey’s mega projects, achieved record numbers both in August and in the first eight months of the year.

• August: 51,195 flights, 8,296,156 passengers

• January–August: 362,069 flights, 55,250,785 passengers

With these figures, Istanbul Airport maintained its leading position in Turkey’s international passenger traffic.

31.2 Million Passengers at Sabiha Gökçen

Sabiha Gökçen, Istanbul’s second-largest airport, also showed strong performance in both domestic and international routes.

• August: 25,602 flights, 4,699,989 passengers

• January–August: 178,296 flights, 31,203,932 passengers

Uraloğlu also noted that Atatürk Airport recorded 19,446 flights in the first eight months.

In Istanbul overall, 12,996,145 passengers were served in August, while the total reached 86,454,717 in the first eight months of the year.

Tourist Airports Welcomed 42 Million Passengers

Airports in Turkey’s tourism hubs also recorded high passenger traffic. From January to August, 42,176,198 passengers were served—12,938,609 on domestic routes and 29,237,589 on international routes.

Regional distribution was as follows:

• Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport: 8,301,159 passengers

• Antalya Airport: 26,179,455 passengers

• Muğla Dalaman Airport: 3,888,089 passengers

• Muğla Milas-Bodrum Airport: 3,121,707 passengers

• Gazipaşa Alanya Airport: 685,788 passengers
