Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat highlighted the potential for cooperation between Türkiye and Gabon in defence, aviation, contracting, and investments, stating:
“We are ready to contribute in every possible way to Gabon’s 2025 Development Programme and its sectoral planning.”
Minister Bolat delivered his remarks at the Türkiye-Gabon Business and Investment Forum, held at DEİK Headquarters with the participation of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, DEİK President Nail Olpak, and representatives from the business world.
“We Have Strong Capabilities in Defence and Aviation”
Bolat noted that Türkiye ranks among the world’s top 11 defence exporters, adding:
“Our production and export capabilities in land, naval, and air platforms are strong. By the end of 2024, our defence exports are expected to reach $8.5 billion. We are ready to offer this capacity in support of the development goals of our friendly and brotherly nation, Gabon.”
“Turkish Contractors Have Signed $2.7 Billion Worth of Projects in Gabon”
Bolat underlined that Turkish construction firms have successfully completed 22 projects in Gabon, totalling $2.7 billion.
He stated: “Our firms will take part in Gabon’s national programme for social housing. Türkiye has become a globally recognised brand in this field.”
Bolat also noted that the Joint Economic Commission meeting is planned for 2025 and that Turkish companies have already created around 1,500 jobs in Gabon through $63 million in investments—a number expected to increase.
“Clearing the Way for Investment”
Minister Bolat stated that two agreements—on the Promotion and Protection of Investments and on the Avoidance of Double Taxation—have been signed between Türkiye and Gabon.
Once ratified, these agreements will eliminate uncertainties for investors and pave the way for further economic engagement.
President Nguema: “The Turkish People Are Builders”
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema also addressed the forum, praising Turkish companies for their contributions to Gabon’s development:
“The Turkish people are builders. Through new partnerships, we will build and produce much more in Gabon,” he said.
