23 Years of Growth Data Announced
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared Türkiye’s 2025 civil aviation statistics with the public, based on data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The announced figures clearly revealed the capacity Türkiye has reached in civil aviation over the past 23 years.
Aircraft Fleet Nearly Quintupled
The number of passenger and cargo aircraft, which stood at 162 in 2003, rose to 800 by the end of 2025. Thus, Türkiye’s commercial aircraft fleet grew by nearly five times.
When air taxis, general aviation aircraft, balloons, and ultralight aircraft are included, the total number of aircraft reached 2,218.
International Flight Network Expanded to 133 Countries
Türkiye’s international flight network has also expanded remarkably.
While flights were operated to 60 destinations in 50 countries in 2002, today direct flights are operated to 356 destinations in 133 countries. In recent years, new destinations such as Leeds, Newcastle, Bristol, Cork, Port Sudan, Seville, and Phnom Penh have been added to the flight network.
The number of countries with air transport agreements increased from 81 to 175, while negotiations were held with 24 countries in 2025 alone.
Record Increase in Seat and Cargo Capacity
Growth in civil aviation has also been reflected in capacity figures.
Total seat capacity, which was 27,599 in 2003, increased to 157,785 in 2025, rising by nearly six times.
During the same period, cargo capacity increased from 302,000 kilograms to 2,902,000 kilograms.
Increase in the Number of Pilots and Technical Personnel
The sector’s expansion has also led to strong growth in human resources.
As of 2025:
- Number of pilots: 17,910
- Licensed technical personnel: 8,978
- Total licensed personnel: 26,888
An increase of 10 percent in the number of pilots and 8 percent in the number of technical personnel was recorded.
Number of Aviation Enterprises Reaches 457
The total number of aviation enterprises, which was 159 in 2003, rose to 457 by the end of 2025. Currently in Türkiye:
- 14 airline operators
- 46 air taxi operators
- 102 general aviation operators
- 71 balloon operators
are in operation. In addition, there are 165 maintenance organizations and 46 ground handling companies actively providing services in the sector.
Türkiye Has One of the World’s Widest Flight Networks
The announced data revealed that by combining its geographical advantage with effective aviation policies, Türkiye has strengthened its position as one of the countries with the world’s widest flight networks, and that growth in civil aviation continues in a sustainable manner.
