Turkey continues to expand its influence in international aviation. The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that, under the memorandums of understanding signed with Bahrain and Jordan, both countries have mutually granted the right to operate 7 weekly flights from Rize-Artvin Airport to Bahrain and Amman.
Minister Uraloğlu shared the details of the agreements signed with Bahrain and Jordan during the International Civil Aviation Negotiations Event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 19 to 24. These agreements will enable 7 weekly flights between Rize and the two countries.
New Air Routes: Connecting Rize with Bahrain and Jordan
The agreements provide the legal and commercial foundation to launch air services between Rize and Bahrain, as well as Jordan. Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the strategic importance of these agreements for Turkey’s aviation sector, stating:
“These agreements with Bahrain and Jordan not only enhance Turkey’s role in the international aviation industry but also open Rize-Artvin Airport to international connections. These flights will make the natural and cultural treasures of Rize and its surroundings accessible to a broader audience.”
New Support for Tourism and the Economy in Rize
Minister Uraloğlu highlighted the region’s appeal with its offerings in highland, nature, and cultural tourism, underscoring the significance of the new flight routes for boosting tourism in Rize.
“The region’s natural beauty will become more accessible to tourists, which will stimulate the local economy and support commercial activities. Rize will gain greater recognition internationally, providing significant momentum for tourism. This step will allow us to fully tap into the economic and tourism potential of Rize.”
Rize-Artvin Airport Gains International Connections
With the launch of these new flights, Turkey’s goal of becoming a regional aviation hub will be further strengthened. The increased use of Rize-Artvin Airport through these international routes will contribute to the region’s growth in both tourism and trade.
