2 December 2025: The United States Air Force (USAF) Air Mobility Command (AMC) has marked a significant milestone in its fleet of Boeing’s next-generation aerial refuelling and multi-role transport aircraft, the KC-46A Pegasus. The programme’s 99th and 100th aircraft were officially delivered during an arrival ceremony held at Travis Air Force Base.
Taking off from Boeing’s Everett-Paine facilities and flying directly to the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis, the aircraft were celebrated with their unpainted fuselage structures bearing the call signs 22-46105 “WYVERN-99” and 22-46106 “GOLDEN-100”.
A Strategic Milestone Following Technical Challenges
The KC-46A programme has undergone extensive work in recent years to overcome numerous technical issues. The delivery of these two aircraft is regarded as a concrete indicator of the progress achieved by both Boeing and the USAF.
KC-46A Pegasus: The Backbone of the Modern Tanker Fleet
The KC-46A Pegasus is a versatile platform designed to meet the requirements of modern air operations. The aircraft is capable of:
- Simultaneous single and multiple refuelling operations,
- Cargo and passenger transport,
- Aeromedical evacuation,
- Operating in demanding environments with advanced defence and communication systems
and therefore plays a strategic role within the USAF fleet.
USAF’s KC-46A Deployment Plan Expands
Operational use of the KC-46A Pegasus is steadily increasing. The aircraft are currently deployed at the following bases:
- Altus AFB (Oklahoma)
- McConnell AFB (Kansas)
- Pease ANGB (New Hampshire)
- Seymour Johnson AFB (North Carolina)
- Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (New Jersey)
- Travis AFB (California)
In the future, deliveries are expected for March Air Reserve Base (CA) and MacDill AFB (FL). In the latest announcement, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base (Tennessee) was also named as a new deployment location.
As the Fleet Grows, the Programme Gains Strength
These deliveries accelerate the KC-46A Pegasus programme’s maturation process while further enhancing the USAF’s global air mobility capability. With the 100th aircraft, the Pegasus fleet has surpassed one of the key milestones in the Air Force’s long-term modernisation strategy.
