Unidentified drones detected near airports and military facilities in Denmark continue to keep the country on high alert. The Danish Armed Forces announced that suspicious drones were observed in different military areas throughout the night.
A spokesperson for the Danish Armed Forces said in a statement: “Several drones were detected in various military areas during the night. Different means and measures were deployed as part of security precautions.” However, no information was shared about the specific locations where the drones were spotted.
Police sources reported drone activity near Karup Air Base in the west of the country. A similar development occurred in Norway. Norwegian police stated that they were investigating suspicious drone sightings around Ørland Air Base, located in the centre of the country. A spokesperson for the Norwegian Armed Forces said: “Several suspicious movements were noticed by guards stationed around the base in the early hours of the morning.” Ørland Air Base is known to host F-35 fighter jets.
The recent sighting of numerous unidentified drones in Danish airspace last week led to the implementation of strict security measures. On 23 September, 31 flights were diverted to other airports from Copenhagen Airport, around 100 flights were delayed or cancelled, and more than 20,000 passengers were affected. On 25 September, Aalborg Airport was also temporarily closed due to suspicious drones.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen described the incidents as a “hybrid attack,” stating: “Such a systematic operation carried out simultaneously at different locations points to the involvement of a professional actor.” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the developments as “the most serious attack on Denmark’s infrastructure.”
