Teesside Airport Steps into the Future with Autonomous Baggage and Passenger Transport Systems
Teesside Airport, one of the UK’s key regional gateways, is hosting a groundbreaking innovation in baggage and passenger transport. Through a partnership with FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group member Aurrigo International, the airport is preparing to test driverless transport systems.
The autonomous system will begin pilot operations at Teesside Airport this autumn and is expected to enable the transport of passengers and baggage via modern autonomous vehicles from early 2026.
Autonomous Vehicles and Pilot Program:

Auto-Shuttle Passenger Vehicle: With an eight-person capacity, this vehicle will start trial operations in October.

Auto-DollyTug: Designed for cargo and baggage transport, this driverless vehicle will enter service in January.
With these technologies, Teesside Airport will become the world’s first airport where both autonomous cargo and passenger vehicles operate simultaneously.

Future Plans and Exhibition Participation:
The pioneering technology will initially operate on land in a test centre, routes will be determined, and after trials, it will move into airside operations. Aurrigo will share its experiences with autonomous vehicles in airports at FTE Global in Long Beach, California, from 9–11 September 2025.
