UK F-35 Fighter Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

During a joint military exercise between Japan and the UK, an F-35 fighter jet from the Royal Air Force was forced to make an emergency landing at Kagoshima Airport due to a technical malfunction.

According to Kyodo News, the F-35, operating in southwestern Japan as part of the exercise ongoing since August 4, had to perform an emergency landing at the airport in the morning. No injuries occurred during the incident, but the runway was closed for approximately 20 minutes, causing brief disruptions to takeoffs and landings.

Officials stated that the emergency landing was caused by a technical fault, but no details about the malfunction were disclosed.

The UK and Japanese armed forces have been conducting joint military exercises since August 4. Manufactured by US-based Lockheed Martin, the F-35 jets have faced reliability and maintenance issues in recent years. Since 2018, these aircraft have been involved in over ten serious accidents, making them a frequent subject of debate despite their advanced technology.
