Patent process has started for jet-powered kamikaze UAV and next-generation platforms
New unmanned aerial vehicle projects developed by TUSAŞ, one of the leading organisations of the Turkish defence industry, have entered the public agenda. Trademark and patent applications filed for the jet-powered kamikaze UAV named “AYAZ” and the piston-engine platform called “GÖLGE” are considered as a sign of a transition to a new technological phase in the sector.
Along with the statements of Defence Industry President Mehmet Demiroğlu, it has also become clear that the work on next-generation platforms carried out within the SAHA ecosystem has accelerated. The projects, developed in at least two different concepts, are expected to be introduced to the public in the coming period.
“AYAZ”: Jet-powered kamikaze UAV for high-speed strike capability
With its application filed on 4 November to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under the name “AYAZ”, TUSAŞ has officially registered its jet-powered kamikaze UAV project.
The system, designed around high speed, low reaction time and precision strike capability, is intended to be used particularly for time-critical targets in the modern battlefield.
“GÖLGE”: Flexible mission platform with piston engine
Another notable project by TUSAŞ is “GÖLGE”. The patent process has also been initiated for this platform.
Planned to be developed with a piston engine, GÖLGE is expected to stand out with its longer endurance and adaptable structure for different mission profiles. A flexible architecture is aimed for use in reconnaissance, surveillance and multi-purpose mission concepts.
A new era of multi-layered architecture in defence strategy
According to defence analysts, TUSAŞ developing UAV projects with different engine types and mission profiles simultaneously strengthens Turkey’s multi-layered air power approach in its defence doctrine.
This model aims to provide solutions within the same ecosystem to different needs such as:
- High-speed strike systems
- Long-endurance reconnaissance platforms
- UAV architectures with high mission diversity
This is seen as a critical factor that increases operational flexibility in the field.
Attention on SAHA Istanbul and the possible unveiling process
Technical details regarding the new platforms are expected to be shared at defence industry events to be held in the coming period. SAHA Istanbul events in particular stand out as the platform where the AYAZ and GÖLGE projects may be presented to the public for the first time with more concrete information.
