Turkey’s flag carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), has sought to resolve a service issue in Africa through legal means by filing a lawsuit in the High Court of Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Lawsuit Against Ugandan Company
Between October 2021 and May 2022, THY entered into an agreement with Ugandan fresh fruit exporter KK Fresh Produce for the transportation of their products. Under this agreement, Turkish Airlines transported KK Fresh’s products for nine months. However, during this period, the Ugandan company failed to pay for the services provided by THY.
Claim for $576,000 Compensation
Due to the payment issue, THY filed a claim for compensation in the High Court of Kampala. The court accepted Turkish Airlines’ claim, granting them the right to demand 2.1 billion Ugandan Shillings, approximately $576,000 (19 million TL) in compensation .
