Turkish Airlines (THY) announced that in the second quarter of 2024, it increased its passenger capacity by 7.7%, carrying 22.1 million passengers and generating an operating profit of $591 million. As the airline that flies to the most destinations worldwide, THY also revealed plans to open new flight routes.
New Flight Routes and Capacity Expansion
Depending on market conditions and aircraft availability, THY plans to launch a total of 12 new flight routes in Chile, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Azerbaijan, France, Sudan, Kazakhstan, and Somalia. Despite facing production bottlenecks and engine issues in the aircraft manufacturing industry, the airline continues to grow thanks to its extensive flight network and agility.
According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), while global passenger capacity in the second quarter of 2024 has just reached pre-pandemic levels, THY has surpassed its 2019 passenger capacity by 38%.
