The recent normalisation process in relations between Türkiye and Armenia is being supported by a concrete step in civil aviation. Türkiye’s flag carrier airline, Turkish Airlines (THY), has decided to launch direct flights to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, starting in March.
This move, taken in a new period marked by mutual messages of normalisation from Ankara and Yerevan, is regarded as an important development in terms of increasing contacts between the two countries.
7 Weekly Flights on the Istanbul–Yerevan Route
From 11 March 2026, THY will operate reciprocal direct flights between Istanbul and Yerevan. Initially planned at 7 frequencies per week, the services will offer passengers uninterrupted travel.
Flight Frequency to Increase Based on Demand
A gradual increase in flight frequency is foreseen depending on passenger demand. Accordingly:
- As of 14 May 2026, the weekly number of flights will be increased to 10,
- With the start of the summer season, after 15 June 2026, the weekly number of flights will rise to 14.
With the increased frequencies, the Istanbul–Yerevan route is expected to become more accessible for both business and leisure travel.
Regional Connectivity and Dialogue Strengthen
THY’s Yerevan flights will contribute not only to aviation, but also to strengthening regional connectivity, trade, and cultural interaction. The direct services are expected to provide significant momentum to the development of dialogue between Türkiye and Armenia and to the materialisation of the normalisation process.
