Gulf Air, the national airline of the Kingdom of Bahrain, has expanded its existing codeshare agreement with Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY). Under the new cooperation, Gulf Air passengers now have access to more destinations in Europe and Türkiye via connections through Istanbul Airport (IST).
With the expanded agreement, Gulf Air passengers can now connect via Istanbul to new destinations including Budapest (Hungary), Prague (Czech Republic), Venice (Italy), Vienna (Austria), and Rize (Türkiye). As a result, passengers will benefit from a wider range of route options and greater flexibility when planning their journeys.
Istanbul Airport Strengthens Its Role as a Global Connectivity Hub
The expansion of the codeshare agreement further increases the reach of Turkish Airlines’ existing global flight network while strengthening Istanbul Airport’s position as an international transfer hub. Thanks to coordinated flight schedules, passengers can enjoy a smoother and more seamless travel experience with a single ticket.
Gulf Air CEO Martin Gauss commented on the development as follows:
“By expanding our codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, we are offering our passengers access to more destinations across Europe and Türkiye via Istanbul. By using Istanbul Airport as a key connection hub, we are enabling travel to more cities through a single and seamless route. Our coordinated flight schedules are designed to provide our customers with a smoother travel experience.”

THY: The Cooperation Will Create Added Value for Passengers
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi highlighted the strategic importance of the expanded cooperation, stating:
“We are pleased to deepen our cooperation with Gulf Air through the expansion of this codeshare agreement and to continue strengthening Istanbul’s role as a leading global hub. We believe that enhanced connectivity options will provide significant added value for our passengers.”

Bahrain Becomes a Strategic Gateway Between Europe and Türkiye
The expanded codeshare agreement positions Bahrain at the centre of Gulf Air’s flight network while offering more options for passengers travelling to Europe and Türkiye. Passengers travelling for business or leisure will benefit from a wider range of routes and the advantage of seamless connections on shared routes. This cooperation also reinforces Bahrain’s role as an important gateway between the Middle East and Europe.
