SOCAR Türkiye and Turkish Airlines Sign Strategic Partnership in Sustainable Aviation Fuel
SOCAR Türkiye and Turkish Airlines (THY) have taken a significant step to support environmental transformation in the aviation sector by signing a Memorandum of Understanding covering cooperation in the field of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The agreement is considered a strategic move for sustainability-focused transformation in both the energy and aviation industries.

SOCAR Türkiye CEO Elchin Ibadov emphasised that sustainability is one of the company’s core priorities, highlighting that the STAR Refinery’s high production capacity, advanced refining technologies, modern operations focused on digitalisation, and R&D investments provide a strong infrastructure for SAF production.
Ibadov stated: “This strategic step we have taken with Turkish Airlines will contribute not only to our industries but also to the vision of a more sustainable world for future generations. We have deepened our existing cooperation in jet fuel within the framework of sustainability. This is only the beginning of our journey.”
Turkish Airlines: “We are contributing to sectoral transformation”
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi said that SAF is an important tool for achieving global aviation’s emission reduction targets.
Ekşi stated: “This memorandum we have signed with SOCAR Türkiye takes our strong cooperation in fuel supply to a new dimension that can deliver environmental benefits. This step will also lay the foundation for integrating SAF into our operations and increasing production capacity.”
Contribution to Regional Sustainability Goals
With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the existing jet fuel cooperation has been expanded into the SAF field. The partnership will pave the way for the implementation of projects aimed at the sustainability goals of both Türkiye and the wider region. SOCAR Türkiye aims to continue developing sustainability-focused projects in both Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
